Accreditation
Since 2001, Southern Evangelical Seminary has been a member of the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS) [PO Box 328, Forest, VA 24551; Telephone: 434.525.9539; e–mail: info@tracs.org] having been awarded Reaffirmation of Accreditation status as a Category IV institution by the TRACS Accreditation Commission on November 7, 2006. This status is effective for a period of ten years.
The Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (TRACS P.O. Box 328, Forest, VA 24551, 804–525–9539) is recognized by both the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the U. S. Department of Education.
The Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and the U. S. Department of Education are the only two organizations in the United States that can authorize accrediting associations. As such, TRACS has the same status as other approved accrediting agencies in the U.S.
In addition, TRACS is also a member of the International Network for Quality Assurance Agencies in Higher Education.
TRACS is sufficient in helping the Seminary achieve its goals, and we are proud to be associated with them.
Degree Programs Offered
Southern Evangelical Seminary has its own independent Board of Trustees and is a non-profit corporation under Internal Revenue Service code of 1986, as amended, section 501(c)(3) and section 170(c)(2).
Degree programs of study offered by Southern Evangelical Seminary have been declared exempt from the requirements for licensure under the provisions of North Carolina General Statutes Section (G.S.) 116-15(d) for exemption from licensure with respect to religious education. Exemption from licensure is not based upon any assessment of program quality under established licensing standards; every other seminary in the State offering legitimate degrees operates under this same statute. After examination of our documents and a visit by the State, Southern Evangelical Seminary was found exempt and permission was granted to begin the degree programs on May 4, 1992.
Southern Evangelical Seminary offers its degree programs in accordance with the provision of the North Carolina State statute noted above.
